Specialities >> Urology >> Curved Penis

A curved penis can be congenital, (the person is already born with the problem) or having the tortuosity acquired by the Peyronie´s disease.

There are 2 cavernous bodies in the penis which are distended with blood and become symmetric during erection. When one is bigger than the other is or is not so elastic, the tortuosities appear.

In cases of congenital curved penis, a curve greater than 30 degrees to the left or right interferes in the sexual intercourse.

Despite having been born with this anomaly, the curved penis only starts to be observed in the first erections.

Peyronie´s disease is a common pathology among men who are 40 and 50 which provokes tortuosities in the penis, making it difficult or even making men incapable of having sexual intercourse. Peyronie´s disease is characterised by the presence of fibrous plaques of varied sizes within the shaft of the penis.

Peyronie´s Disease Symptoms

The origins of Peyronie´s disease are unknown but it can be attributed to little and repetitive traumas occurred during sexual intercourse, micro-traumas during nocturnal erections or direct trauma in individuals who present some pre-disposition. The main symptom is the appearance of a lump which can be felt under the skin of the penis, which causes pain during erection. Sometimes, the head of the penis becomes flaccid.

Curved Penis Treatment

There is treatment for curved penis in both cases, congenital and Peyronie´s disease.

If the curvature interferes with the erection or if there are any risks during sexual intercourse, the best treatment is surgical. The surgery consists of reducing the cavernous body which is bigger through a plicature.

It lasts about 40 minutes with 1 day hospitalised, and the patient can resume their sexual activities in a month.
