Umbilical hernia is very common in new-born babies, and it is regards a deformity in the closing of the umbilical scar. Its cause may be put down to incomplete closure of the umbilical cord, by which the exchange of nutrients with the mother was established.
Congenital Umbilical Hernia:
It consists of a failure of return of part of the medium intestine to the abdominal cavity during the fetal period.
Acquired Umbilical Hernia:
It happens during childhood due to debilitation in the scar of the umbilicus.
This disease is characterized by the presence of swelling under the skin, which is worsened when the baby makes an effort or cry.
In general, this pathology is resolved spontaneously up to the age of two. If is persists to the age of five, a surgical treatment is necessary, when it consists of the suture of the umbilical defect.
