Abdominal Plastic

For whom this is prescribed

Abdominal plastic, also known asdermolipectomy or abdominoplasty, has as its main objective the functional and aesthetical correction of the abdomen. It is prescribed for people who have flaccidity in the abdomen, excess of fat and women who do not wish to have any more children.

Expected results

As the abdominal plastic is a surgery which removes a given quantity of skin and fat, there will evidently be a reduction in body weight, which varies according to the volume of the abdomen of each patient. It is not, however, the "removed kilos" which will define the aesthetic result, but the proportion kept between the abdomen, torso and limbs.

Paradoxically, the abdomens which present a best aesthetical results are exactly the ones which have the smallest removals. This is how most women present some flaccidity in the abdomen after 1 or several childbirth, having predominance of skin over the quantity of fat located in the region. These cases permit excellent results.

In other cases, in which the patient is above normal weight, the result will also be rewarding and proportional to the rest of the body, however, it is worth remembering that excess of fat in other regions neighbouring the abdomen will still exist, which leads us to advise those who present themselves in this situation to proceed with clinical or physiotherapy treatment, to balance the various parts among themselves.

Hospitalisation length

Plastic surgery in the abdomen takes about 3 hours and the length of hospitalisation is 24 hours.

Anaesthesia

Normally, the anaesthesia used is the epidural or similar. General anaesthesia may be used in certain cases.

Scar

The scar derived from the abdominal plastic is located horizontally or straight above the implantation of the pubic hair, prolonging itself laterally in a bigger or smaller extension, depending on the volume of the abdomen to be corrected. It is intended that this scar will be hidden under bathing suits and underwear.

The umbilical surgery will not be changed. Your own umbilicus will be transplanted and, if necessary, remodelled.

Surgery Complications

Abdominal plastic surgery rarely brings complications, as long as it is performed with medical criteria. This is due to the fact that each patient is conveniently prepared for the surgery, besides the fact that we consider the convenience of the association of this surgery at the same time as others.

Post-operative care

In the post-operatory, an elastic dressing (belt) is used and modulators, for better comfort and evolution of the surgery. The dressing may be taken out in one week. A year from the plastic surgery, the appearance of the scar improves.
