Fibrosis

Fibrosis is a natural process of the organism in reaction to an incision or trauma which occurs parallel to healing. In the beginning, the fibrosis, which is located below the scar, is more intense, hardened, presenting irregularities and sensitivity.

As time goes by, usually after 12 months, the fibrosis tends to soften, becoming less perceptible and its symptoms are eased or non-existent.

In the case of lipoaspiration, this healing proceeds from fat covering a much bigger area than the small incisions. This is why post-operative care is essential in preventing process.

Commonly, plastic surgeons recommend lymphatic drainage sessions, preferably with ultrasound, however, other preventative measures must be taken, such as: the use of sunblock and surgical belt and bra for about 45 days.

In the initial stage of the healing process it is also best to avoid physical effort in order not to compromise the fibres which have already been formed, as well as to maintain the local asepsis. Consume vitamins, mineral salt, take in lots of water and jelly. Have massages and local compressions with silicon tapes. Applying specific creams can help a lot.

We must not forget that the care mentioned depends on genetic heritage which also influences this process. If, after the scar’s ripening period, the locale of the incision still remains hardened, with retractions, irregularities and great sensitivity, it is necessary to treat the case with medical help.
