You will leave the surgery wearing an appropriate belt for the post-operative period. This must be worn for about 2 months, or as long as possible, removing it only to have a shower and change dressings. It is necessary to have the doctor’s authorization even for these procedures.
In the case of mammary prosthesis, the dislodged area is about 20% bigger than the previous one, therefore, some orientations must be followed so that the prosthesis can lodge in the anatomic position most appropriate for each patient. Some of these basic orientations are: do not undertake any intense physical effort, do not move the arms a lot, do not expose yourself to heat or excess, do not smoke or drink. It is worth remembering that these measures are necessary, particularly in the first 72 hours, because if they are not followed liquids or blood may accumulate in this space, thus causing a hematoma/lymphocele and, possibly, loss of prosthesis.
Post Surgery Anesthesia Recovery
Tolerance to anesthetics is individual and must be respected. Until your organism has metabolised it (which takes about 24 hours), you may have dizziness when getting up or feel nauseous. Therefore, never get up quickly.
When lying down, wait for about 5-10 minutes before getting up, sitting on the side of the bed/couch and, if you don´t feel dizzy, get up. If you feel dizzy, lie down again and wait a little longer before repeating this process. But, keep calm, after 24 hours this sensation will disappear.
That´s why we recommend that somebody accompanies you at first, particularly, in the first shower. Put a plastic chair in the bathroom, to promote more stability. We also recommend that you do not have a shower on the day of the surgery or the following day, waiting about 48 hours for the wound to become impermeable.
Eating:
The food must be light, (soup and juice) for the first twelve hours. After this period you may resume a normal diet but avoid consuming alcoholic drinks for at least 3 days, and follow your doctor´s specific instructions.
Medications and pain:
It is very important to take the prescribed medicines at the advised times and not to use
medications which have not been prescribed by your doctor. Some pain occurs in many cases, but keep calm as this will disappear with the prescribed medicines. In order for the patient do not make any unnecessary efforts, a mild pain is necessary. The pain threshold varies a lot from patient to patient. If you feel the pain is too intense and that the painkillers prescribed are not effective, see your doctor.
Dressings:
Return to the Hospital Anália Franco on the appointed day to change dressings.
During the first fortnight, avoid:
Raising the arms more than 45 degrees in relation to the torso (in the case of mammary surgery);
Carrying weight or do physical effort;
Driving (in the case of mammoplasty and abnominosplasty drive after 4 weeks);
Sleeping on your stomach;
Sun or excessive heat (Ex.: Sauna). As for the sun, you doctor will explain it better on you return;
Swimming in the sea or pool.
After a month you will be able to exercise again and do moderate physical exercise, only resuming weight lifting and aerobic exercise after three months.
Results for mamma augmentation:
The prostheses are put into a position higher the ideal, to accommodate the action of gravity which will reposition it to the ideal place. This usually occurs between one and three months after surgery, when the final result will be seen. Until this happens, you may have the impression your mammas are too high or different. The post-operative swelling may also take a month to disappear, and you may think your mammas are bigger than they should be.
Our advice:
Do not worry about the intermediary shape in the various stages. Clear your eventual doubts with your doctor and wait for a wonderful result.
Scars:
Scars tend to be thin but, until three months after the surgery, it stays reddish, not aesthetic and sensitive. After these 3 months the scar starts to improve its appearance. It should reach the ideal condition one year after surgery.
Check this information from time to time, as many times as necessary.
Each doctor has their own care, pre- and post-operative. Follow the instructions and look after yourself to have the best result.
